A New Cancer Centre
Investing in the Future of Merseyside and Cheshire

What Happens Next?

We will make sure we are enhancing a great cancer centre. It is about how we go from great to world class and the benefits that brings to the local population across Merseyside and Cheshire. We would not be doing this if we did not feel our patients were going to benefit. This is an amazing opportunity for all of us.

Associate Medical Director
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre

We hope this summary has been useful in informing you about the vision for cancer services in Merseyside and Cheshire and the benefits that we firmly believe will follow for patients right across the region.

There is strong support from all clinicians involved in cancer treatment to move ahead with this proposal.

Throughout 2012 there will be a range of opportunities for you to learn more about these proposals and to give your views. Public events and other activities will be promoted in the local media and on trust websites.

It will, of course, take several years to establish the new cancer centre if the proposals are approved. If the plans get the green light and are affordable, it is hoped the new cancer centre would be ready to receive its first patients at the same time or soon after the opening of the new Royal Liverpool Hospital in 2017.

Community Roadshows

The 'Action on Cancer' team will be visiting a wide range of venues across Merseyside and Cheshire to give residents a chance to find out more about the cancer centre proposals.

Cancer Community Champions Wanted!

We need members of the public to help us share information about the proposals and become cancer community champions.

As we are all aware, cancer services are highly valued by members of the community and we need to ensure they have time to gain an understanding of the plans and hopefully support this development by giving us their comments. We also need to understand what concerns the public, patients, families, might have, so when the plans are being developed at the next stage, those comments can be considered and incorporated.
